Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply when you book or attend a Candles By Matthew workshop, or arrange a private or corporate session with us. Please read them before booking. By completing a booking, you agree to these terms.

1. About Candles By Matthew

Candles By Matthew provides creative candle-making and fragrance workshops in the UK. You can contact us through the enquiry form on this website or, if you already have a booking, by replying to your booking confirmation.

2. Booking a workshop

A booking is not confirmed until payment has been successfully completed and you receive a booking or ticket confirmation. Places are subject to availability. Please check the date, time, venue and number of places carefully before paying.

Public workshops are currently intended for adults aged 18 and over unless the event listing expressly says otherwise.

3. What is included

Unless the event listing states otherwise, a public class is approximately two hours and includes the materials and equipment needed to explore fragrance, create a bespoke blend and hand-pour a soy-wax candle to take home. Any stated burn time is an estimate and can vary depending on candle care and conditions of use.

4. Prices and payment

The price shown when you book is the price payable for the selected workshop and number of places, unless an obvious pricing error has occurred. Any compulsory charges will be shown before payment is completed.

Payments may be processed by a third-party payment provider. Their terms may also apply to the payment service they provide.

5. Cancellations and refunds

Our customer cancellation arrangements are set out in our Cancellations & Refunds Policy, which forms part of these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

6. Changes or cancellation by us

Occasionally we may need to make a reasonable change to a workshop, for example to the tutor, room or other operational detail. If we make a material change to the date, time or venue and you cannot reasonably attend as a result, we will offer an alternative date or a refund.

If we cancel a workshop, you will be offered a transfer to another available date or a full refund of the amount paid to us for the affected booking. We are not responsible for separate travel, accommodation or other costs you choose to incur, except where the law says otherwise.

7. Arriving for your class

Please arrive in good time. Candle-making involves instruction, fragrance materials and hot wax, so joining significantly late may not be safe or practical. If you arrive too late to take part safely, admission may be refused and the booking will be treated in accordance with the Cancellations & Refunds Policy.

8. Safety, allergies and participation

You must follow reasonable safety instructions given by Matthew or the venue. Please tell us before the workshop if you have an allergy, sensitivity, medical consideration or are pregnant and believe this may be relevant to fragrance oils or workshop materials. This allows us to discuss reasonable precautions, but we cannot provide medical advice.

We may refuse or stop participation if someone behaves in a way that is unsafe, seriously disruptive, abusive or puts other guests, staff, the venue or property at risk. No refund will normally be due where participation is ended for those reasons.

Pets are not permitted at workshops because fragrance oils and the workshop environment may not be suitable for animals, except where the law requires an assistance animal to be accommodated. If you use an assistance animal, please contact us before booking so we can discuss the venue and workshop setup.

9. Personal belongings and the venue

Please take reasonable care of your belongings. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill or by another legal duty we owe you.

Public workshops may take place at third-party venues. Venue rules that are reasonable and relevant to safety, access or conduct also apply while you are there.

10. Photographs and marketing

You are welcome to take personal photographs where this does not disrupt the class or other guests. We will not use a recognisable photograph or video of you for our own promotional purposes without an appropriate lawful basis and, where required, your permission.

11. Our responsibility to you

We will provide the workshop with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or rights that cannot legally be excluded under consumer law.

We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made, or for business losses arising from a booking made wholly for personal purposes, except where the law provides otherwise.

12. Private and corporate workshops

Private, corporate, wedding or bespoke fragrance sessions may involve a separate written quotation, minimum group size, deposit, venue arrangement or cancellation schedule. Where separate written terms are agreed for a private booking, those terms will apply alongside these Terms & Conditions. Any cancellation charge will be intended to reflect reasonable costs and losses rather than operate as a penalty.

13. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible through the website or by replying to your booking email. We will aim to investigate and resolve complaints fairly.

14. Privacy

Information about how we use personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

15. Law and consumer rights

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you also retain any mandatory protections available to you under the law that applies where you live. Nothing in these terms is intended to remove rights that consumer law gives you.
